  1. I have heard a lot of home theater systems and I personally prefer an Onkyo receiver and Polk Audio's Monitor series speakers.  You can get an Onkyo receiver like the TX-SR604 for a good price and it pushes these speakers very well.  I also like the Polk Audio Monitor 60's floor standing speakers and the Monitor 40's for rear surrounds and for the center speaker I like the Polk Audio Monitor CS2.  They are well worth the money and as for the subwoofer I have a Polk PSW-505 that you can get on www.onecall.com for an excellent priceand its extremely loud and clean....its retail is $589 and they also have good prices for the monitor series speakers as does amazon.  I do not think you could go wrong with these speakers they are superb.

  2. I prefer Denon receivers; and as far as speakers you can not go wrong with MartinLogan, Bowers & Wilkins, or Vienna Acoustics.

  3. That is too broad a question to answer here.

Are you looking for the pinnacle in surround sound?

Are you more interested in durability/ruggedness?

Are you looking at the biggest bang for a buck?

1)Clarify a budget 2) Set the expectation you want the system to perform to. 3) Do your own evaluation?

Here is some reading material for you to consider. Remember the best is the one that you are happiest with for sound and value

  4. There is no across-the-board "best".

Basically, the more the spend, the better it gets, to a point.

McIntosh is about as high-end as stereo equipment gets.

But there are tons of other makes that are great, too.

It's all in what sounds good to YOU.

But again, there is no "best".

  5. You can have a look at Surround-sound buying guide - at CNET reviews..i think it will be helpful for you.

  6. I like Denon receivers with Difenitive speakers, or Klipsh refrence series

  7. Well Sound is important...

But if you want good sound and RUGGED design...I suggest the Denon line of recievers,
