Whats the best teeth whitening product?

Question

I've used all kinds of things. It's not like my teeth are really gross looking or anything but I want to get them really really white. Also do you think the majority of whitening products out there make them less potent so that you'll have to buy more because some of them don't seem very effective at all. Thank you :]

As a dental hygenine nurse i know all about the ridiculous prices you can pay to get your teeth whiten. The cheapest (britesmiles) is still a whopping $300! And for best results dentists reccomend the $1500 treatment.

Crest strips are great. I've been using them for 4 years, coffee drinker, ex-smoker and they work great. I use them about every year or so. The key is to go through the entire system as directed to get max results. The Classic or Renewal line works great. The Premium line didn't work so good on me but everyone's different. The Premium line does take shorter time though, you wear them for 7 or 10 days. The Classic 14 days. And Renewal 10 day. I find the Renewal lifts deep stains (claims to remove up to 20 years of stains) but the Classic gave me longer lasting results. Any one of these, you wear for 30 mins a day, twice a day. It may cause some sensitivity. To decrease some of it, don't brush before use, wear the top/bottom separately, skip a day or allow more time in between each set. Like instead of wearing them back to back, wear a set in the morning and at night. There's also Crest Multicare, which gradually whitens your teeth. It takes 5 mins a day. I've also used the Rembrant whitening strips but no results for me. But my friend has used it and it works good. It's on sale on Amazon for under $10 which is a good deal. The strips cost about $30. Some dentists offer Crest Supreme too. I'm on that now. It has higher whitening ingredients and larger strips. While on any strips, avoid coffee, soda, tea, smoking, or dark drinks. Or rinse after. I use a whitening toothpaste like Colgate Total whitening or Rembrant whitening (pricey though) to prolong the results. There are more effective whitening options your dentist offers but since you ask for only otc. =) Good luck!

What ever my dentist sold me seems to be working. Its a bleaching kit with a mold of my very own teeth. Nothing else ever worked. The hygienist said that commercial products are much less effective because they are less potent.

It cost $300.00 total, if you are interested.

I like Crest WhiteStrips and Listerine Whitening Strips.  Listerine is more comfortable and results are pretty quick, but they fade away much faster than Crest WhiteStrips.  Plus, Listerine Whitening strips are more difficult to apply because if one spot gets wet before it's on your teeth, then you're screwed - imagine what happens when you're pulling sticky tape and it gets stuck to itself -- and you can't "un-stick" it either.

It's possible that they make them less potent so that you have to buy more, but I think they make them weak so that they can be sold over the counter (instead of prescription).  Plus, they wouldn't weaken their products so much because that would hurt their sales.  People would complain that their product is ineffective and flock to the competition!  The only way to not send people flying to the competition is if all companies illegally colluded and agreed to make products an X-amount weak.  So, ultimately, no I don't think they weaken their products so you have to buy them more often.  Besides, the whitening products i listed above both worked pretty well for me.

k you don't wanna use strips, because most of them don't get into the deep spaces in between and then you get really white fronts of ur teeth, but the sides of ur teeth are not white, so it looks uneven. if you want perfect white teeth the best way to go is the gel you put on over night. you can just use it like toothpaste but then just don't take it off ur teeth, and then it stays on whitening ur teeth all night and before you know it, kaBAM! shiiiiiiiiine

i started using whitening strips 2 days ago and i got this TERRIBLE toothache. all my front teeth were hurting like crazy. i had to go to the pharmacy at 3 am. omg horrible day. my teeth are still sensitive to water. i can only have water with a straw.

see a dentist who provides BRITESMILE. Cost approx $300. I had it done once.. but the original color came back.... as a friend said... it went from URINAL WHITE TO URINE YELLOW!

My Dentist now recommends Crest strips 2-3 week on top of the Britesmile treatment.

The Crest Whitening strips are the best. The ones that do not dissolve are better, as the flouride stays on your teeth longer and better. You can notice a difference after one use of those.

I just talked to my dentist about this and he said crest whitestrips are very popular and if you get them from your dentist they are a little more expensive, but they are more potent. You want to get the stuff with the hydrogen peroxide in them, and you want something that stays on your teeth for like a half hour. Tooth paste isn't on your teeth long enough. Also, don't get the stuff where you have to pre-rinse because that only puts a coating on your teeth rather than bleaching them. It will fall off very easy. The only downfall to these is they make your teeth a little sensitive. I hope this helped!!! ;)
