  1. Early morning.  Set shallow, straight-sided cans (like tuna cans) around the area being sprinkled.  Water until you have 1 inch in the cans.  Note the length of time it took to get the 1".  Then set your sprinklers to run that long.

A deep watering (1") once a week should keep your plants and grass happy.  Don't split the watering into two times, 1/2" each time.  That'll cause shallow watering and the roots will spread out to get as much water as possible.  If you water the whole inch at one time, the water will sink farther down in the soil, so the roots will grow down and not be so affected by hot weather.

  2. Turn them on in the evening, it will quench the soil and give it a good start for the next hot day. Don't turn them on whilst the sun is out as the droplets can magnify the suns rays and scorch plants and lawns. As to how often, it depends on how hot your days are and which plants you have, if you see wilting or fading of colour  then you are underwatering, if you have mud its too much! try a little trial and error for times and frequency :-)

  3. in the morning---i read if you do it in the evening that the water

doesn't evaporate off the grass and can cause a fungus

  4. either very early in the mornings between 6-8, or wait til about 5 in the evening. other wise the sun just evaporates the water.  But i recommend the mornings. if you do it in the evenings, the mosquito's come out. and its best to do it for about twenty minutes at a time if your lawn is at least healthy.if its dying, yellow grass, keep it out for about an hour.

  5. Early morning is best but late afternoon is ok.  It is best to run your sprinkler for a long time 20 to 30 min but only every 3 or 4 days.  You want the water to soak deep to encourage rooting.

  6. Early in the morning.  Your lawn has all day to make sure it consume that water.  Watering in the heat is a waste of water because of evaporation.
