  1. march is okay... december and january even better!!! these are the summer months when the true spirit of South Africa comes out to play- warm beaches, late night braais with friends and family, non-stop parties Monday till Sunday... there is nothing which can beat a South African summer. as for the person with the first answer, s***w you

  2. You missed it, 1948 to 1994, anytime of those years.

Tangy One - Come and make me you f*cking ******.

  3. march is a good time it isnt to hot or to cold.

But be prepared things aint the same or even look the same as 16 years ago

  4. It kinda depends on where you're doing I guess. I would say mid September, with Spring in full bloom and the smell of flowers drifting across the lawns and streets. I'm from Cape Town and would dearly love to be able to gome home in September and visit Stellenbosch - smell the smells, see the flowers and fresh, green leaves...

  5. It depends on where you want to go and what you want to do or are interested in.

If you are a sun lover - it is best to go in Summer - December to February.  Also maybe during October to March - middle April.  December/January may be very hot and the sun is dangerous during this period.  You need to be careful and avoide direct sun during the mid hours of the day.  South Africa get summer rains - except for the Cape - south western part of the country.

If you are a nature person - this will also be the most beautiful period - rainy season.  If you are into game watching, Autumn and winter may be better as the animals then come to the water holes and is easier to be spotted.  During summer months water may be available in other parts of the reserve.

Cape province is wet during winter months - May to August - and snow may occur.  The rest of the country is cold and dry - although it is warmer in Kwazulu Natal (KZN) - Eastern part of the country at Durban.  Spring is from September to November, but during the last few years we got snow as late as October.

March could be the best choice for above reasons.  During Easter weekend it is best to avoid Durban (KZN) as it is normally very crowded.

I would suggest that you decide what you want to do and see.  Then decide on when is the best time.

The seasons are as follows:  Summer - December to February.  Autumn - March to May.  Winter - June to August. Spring - September to November.

    *** Edit ***

I agree - as you are a former south african - I believe you know about all the bad things in SA.  Just be careful and avoid dangerous areas - as in all countries in the world.  Hope you enjoy your visit.

  6. March is very good and also December is great!
