We bought a new stove. Our old stove was a slide in, so I need to cut the back splash out, plus about 1/2 on one side so the stove will fit.

  1. Can you take the section of counter out?  The best way to cut it is to cut close to the line with a Skilsaw, then finish the cut with by clamping a straightedge to the underside of the top and use a router.  If that's not possible, use a jigsaw with a DOWN CUTTING blade.  It will blow out the bottom, but will leave a nice edge on top.  If necessary, belt sand to the line.  Hope this helps.

  2. I think a sawsall, reciprocating saw will do the trick, maybe even a regular jigsaw. They sell them at walmart for under 40 bucks. Just make sure to get the right kind of blade.

  3. A skill saw will do most of the job they make blades for laminate. I would use a regular hand saw for the back splash and the back part of the counter just make sure the blade is a finish blade. You will have a hard time getting power tools up next to the wall. If you use a rough cut blade in the skill saw or get a hand saw with to coarse of a tooth pattern you will more than likely chip the laminate. Also put a piece of blue painters tape on the counter on the side that will remain use this for your guide line for the cut. This will also help to keep the laminate from chipping.
