Whats the best way to capture rainwater in an apartment?

I live in an upstairs apartment and I normally put out a couple buckets to catch the rainwater. I'm not all into this green thing but it's easier to catch the rainwater than to fill up the watering can. I know there's things to put under the spout if your downstairs but is the bucket way the best for me since I'm upstairs?

  1. rent or buy a flat DOWNSTAIRS if u want a water butt. buckets is the best way fr u . if sumone can think of a better way they are Stephen Hawking

  2. I would not try after all it is someone else's property your dealing with.

  3. well i think you should keep using the buckets if its workin 4 you and if it doesnt get a professional in to hav a look

  4. Yes. It is a less hassling way and very easy to perform. Of course you could call a repair guy to fix the ceiling. Try that too lol.

  5. Do a search for outdoor camping showers....some of them come with a larger heavy plastic tarp that is connected to a flexible pipe in the center.  The larger tarp would allow you to cover more square footage so that you could collect more water.  A pipe from the tarp runs into a container that stores water for showering.  I'm sure that you could adapt it meet your needs.

  6. My husband had taken some of the gutters down around the house last winter, and we hadn't gotten to the point of installing rain barrels yet, so I deployed all the empty cat litter tubs around the house to catch the water.  I was usually able to dump all the water on the plants within about a week.  It felt really good not to let all that water just run down the driveway and into the street.

Sound like you're doing okay, but maybe you could present the landlord with some info on rain barrels, and help your apartment "go green."
