Whats the best way to do an armbar?

If your trying to do an armbar on someone who can curl your body weight what would you suggest? Are there certain techniques to help you keep them from curling you up?

  1. an armbar from the mount (on top) you dont have to attack the bicep as you sit back angle slightly up towards the shoulder. I think your question is geared more toward the armbar from guard. one of the keys is to take the leg thats over his head and keep it angled towards his head not towards the shoulder. this will keep the other person from  standing straight up making it impossible to curl you because a large amount of weight is now being placed on the head and neck. also keep in mind that from this postion you can attack the off arm (closer arm) with an omoplata or my favorite the armbar sweep.

  2. Eat more so you are not so light. Seriously work on good technique, it is the only way to overcome a size and strength advantage, and even sometimes that's not enough.

  4. if you do it right his strength will matter little. ok your on your back push his head out this sets up the arm the way your pushing his head kick your leg around his head then he cant stand up to to pick you up. also if he is picking you up hook the ankle or knee that is by your head this will cause him to fall or try to pick him self up. also if he can curl your dody weight that doesn't matter because because to do a curl a person is in a very different spot then when being armbarred the leverage is ver very different. even if he picks you up you can still get the armbar. thats what happend in the Mir, Silvia fight

  6. It is best to put your feet on there face and arch your back anf try to use your full body on to the arm bar.

  7. Well, doing an armbar on someone who can curl you may not be the brightest idea.  That would have been like Frank Mir trying to armbar Brock Lesnar.  Even Frank said he wouldn't have gotten far trying to do that.  But he did submit him with an ankle lock.

    So my suggestion would be to abandon the armbar in that situation and go for a triangle or anckle lock.
