  1. Hi There!

I’m based in Belfast and planning a similar trip for around Mar/April 2009. I’ve been checking www.expedia.co.uk as a good guide for flights.

Another method I’m trying, is picking the airport I want to arrive at, e.g. Auckland, then search for it on Wikipedia. There is a section on flight routes, and the names of the airlines that use them. Then go to the airline’s individual website and check their prices.

Although I’m going a different route than you (Ireland-US-Oz-NZ), I’m fairly sure there are no direct Ireland-NZ routes. You’ll probably have to go from London to NZ stopping off in S.E.Asia. With fuel prices rising, I’d budget for around €1000 one way. Once you’re in NZ, it should be handy enough to get a (relatively) cheap flight to Oz (~€200). I believe they are connected by low-fares airlines similar to EasyJet and RyanAir.

As for how much money you’d need for 6 months, Its probably not far from what you spend at the minute. If you use your current monthly outgoings as a guide, that should help. However, you should also consider getting a working holiday visa. Ireland and Oz/NZ have agreements to make this relatively easy.

It seems like there is a mass exodus at home now, a lot of my friends are already down there, and many more are going. Best of luck with the planning!
