  1. How about getting a bottle of Bitter Apple from the pet store and soaking your horse's tail with it.  It will make the tail taste bad and the yearling will find out pretty quick and not chew it any more.

It works with dogs, anyway.  Dogs and puppies have the same problem sometimes.

  2. I know a few people that put fly spray on the tail and main, and the yearling stoped right away.

Once he stops chewing on it, use tail and main shampoo to help grow it back.

I really woudnt use some of the suggestions like hot sauce, and leaving in lots of conditinar. If you leave in a whole bunch of conditanor that will be extremly bad for the horses tail, it will cause dryness and irration. And hot sauce could fly off even if you get it in there very well. One it may fly off and get in your horses eyes. two the horse may exadently hit another horse with its tail and get in there eyes.

I do however have a trick to keep something in. I dont know if it will work for the hot sauce, but its not something im going to ever try. i know someone who has always had luck with it. mixing a little tabasco sauce with baby oil and putting it in the mares manes and tails

The tabasco taste really bad and the baby oil will help keep it in the hair. When using it in the tail I never place it on the tail bone, or go up above the tail bone

    Best of luck!

  3. just keep them seperated for a while and when ever she starts chewing on the tail..just make sure she knows that it is wrong..make a sudden noise or however you discipline your horse

  4. I've never actually tried this myself but I read a thing in a magazine that said that if you coat the victim's tail with conditioner and leave it on all thick that it will dry gummy and yucky and nasty tasting, but it's non-toxic, so the yearling (probly) won't want to chew on it. Plus, when you rinse it out it will be all nice and soft and shiny.

You could also use a tail bag, but your yearling would probably just chew on the bag and rip it up, plus during fly season that's not the best idea.

For the growing back, use MTG. It is amazing. After like, two days you notice the difference. If you left it coated on (which you have to do anyway) the yearling would probably not chew it, because it smells like pork and is kind of greasy.

  5. put tabassco on your horses tail and let the horses tail grow

  6. i tried dawn soap at first it didn't work (he actually LIKED it!)so I used hot sauce but you have to be careful not to touch it to your horses skin in case it burns...
