Whats the best way to get good video from a DVD, preferably Divx nd without havng to split it up into 1Gb bits

I currently use DVD Shrink 3.2 and that is great except it converts the videos into a VOB file and I have had to get a cinema plug in for my Archos 504 but it works really well on my PS3, the only problem is that it splits the video files into 1GB bits and this means it is annoying and also takes up a lot of memory, I have seen people with Divx rips that are only about 1GB for a whole movie, how do I get this software? (preferably for free) also i have tried checking the box on DVD Shrink saying "Do not split files up into 1GB pieces" but the result is a very large video file with the end missed off

I use DVD Decrypter to rip my DVD's into AVI's. Theres a How-To guide for the correct settings you are suppose to use.
