  1. The best way is to make regular payments on your debt.

Pay particular attention to making regular credit card payments.  Set up online bill pay if you have to.  Also, do not max out any of your cards.  If you carry a balance each month, don't let it be more than 30% of the credit limit on each card.

Try paying the most on your highest interest card.  Still make more than the minimum payment on each card monthly.

Don't close any of your idle accounts.  Don't open any new accounts.  Don't miss any payments or pay late.  It'll cost you in interest increases, late fees, and it'll lower your credit score.

  2. Miss Confused is confused or she works for a collection co.

DO NOT pay a penny to a collection company.

Make them prove it is your debt.

OH they will send you a stack full of papers , but were is the contract you signed?

That's right the need it to collect.

Now give them 5 days to delete the collection

If not call them again and tell them your going to your states Attorney General for assistance if not deleted with a letter sent to you that it was deleted.

99.99% of the time its gone

  3. It depends on what credit problems you have.

If you have collections, pay them off.

If you have credit card debt, pay down your balances to below 25% (or pay it off completely if possible).

If you have any types of loans, pay them off.

If you have a short credit history, you need time.

If you have missed or had late payments, you need time.

About 2 years of on-time payment history is good.

Also, collections don't come off your account for 7 years after the date you've paid them. Inquiries (like applying for a credit card/loan) don't come off for 2 years from the date it was made.

  4. Pay off debts that are on your credit report.  If you can get approved for a credit card, charge a small amount (we're talking like ten dollars here) every month and pay it right off to establish a positive payment record.  Don't get carried away, you have to be controlled.

  5. Get copies of your credit reports first...they will tell you what you need to do.  Get credit card...even if its a secured one (money down first) capital one will give one to almost anyone, and pay it off always instantly.  Don't take out any more loans and don't get anymore credit checks.  If have collections agencies calling you deal with it as fast as possible

  6. Pay your bills on time.Don't have maxed out credit cards, they count against you.Yty to have equal portions of different types of credit, such as maybe 2or 3 Visa& Mastercards & 2or 3 store cards ,a mortgage & a car or what ever. They have arctiles about this subject at www.bizrate.com.
