Question:

Whats the best way to increase FM radio reception?

I've heard or using foil, but I think its a myth, any suggestions?....this is for a home stereo.

  1. Ah, sucks, don't it. Most receivers seem to do no better than table top sets from the 70's. Anyway, you should have a 75 ohm or 300 ohm hookup on the rear for an antenna. Switching to a bigger unit should help. college radio aficionados and the like have historically used rooftop VHF TV antennas, If you still have one on your roof, try routing the cable from that over to to your stereo. It's idea because FM stereo is also VHF, and pretty close in frequency, too.


  2. Connect something big and metal to it.. or keep your radio close to the ground. Or even touch it with your hand.

  3. an external antenna that is cut for the FM band.

    mount it outside, on the roof, and use a quality coaxial cable such as RG6.

  4. Get an outside antenna. If you're trying to listen to one particular station above all others, you can get a beam or Yagi antenna and point it right at the transmitter. Remember, the higher you get the antenna, the better you'll be able to see the transmitter.
