The other two people made valid points. The whole idea is that if you spray onto oilier skin, the oil will basically entrap the scent and preserve it much better. Therefore, if you have dry skin, a little lotion can help. If you already have oily skin, then you will generally be fine.

To make cologne last longer, you can also apply cologne to what are called "pulse points", or places you can easily feel your pulse. These places generally generate a nice amount of heat, making your cologne project a bit more and also helps with the longevity.

I have heard on fashion tv shows, that if you dab just a tiny little vasaline to your neck or wrists... then apply the perfume... it will last longer.

I tried it, and it worked for me.
