i need to shift around 20 pounds in 10 weeks otherwise i will be fighting guys too tall for me. I'm carrying a bit of padding (flab) so it is there to lose, but whats the best way? I need to also improve my cardio and stretching at the same time. I'm almost 40 so no spring chicken, and fairly new to martial arts (around 1 year training). Currently I'm running every day but I don't see any weight loss although my cardio is improving.

  1. just burn more calories than you consume. as per the first answer...dont eat alot at a time (nor late at night before bed)...but eat more, but smaller meals. eat things high in fiber...it fills you up faster, and longer.

again the key to burning fat is burning calories...more than you consume.

i also heard a top trainer say it's good for you to fast for 24 hours a week. drink lots of water to get rid of the hunger pains. there is alot of food in our systems serving no purpose..this will get rid of it. you will be thinner, lighter, and feel better...albeit hungry as a horse.

  2. well the first thing is DONT GO ON A DIET because if u do u wont  eat any thing for ten weeks  and go slim then u think oh! now iam slim i can eat any thing so u become fat again and it keeps going like a wave so the best thing is try to eat more fibre less carbohydrates and do a lot of SIT UPS ATLEAST 100 EVERY MORNING Bbelive me i have studied dis

  3. 20 lbs in ten weeks should be easy if you are working out seriously.Do about 1 hour of cardio daily with a pvc sweat suit on and wear sweat pants and a hoodie over top. Work out until u leak .Be careful though and stop if u start getting dizzy

  4. 20 pounds in 10 weeks is very possible, 2lb a week is a good way to go. you like me are the wrong side of 25 so you will find that long runs athough they will improve your cardio will only improve your running cardio, you are not training to run!!

stay with your current martial arts class, and if possible do a run early morning before breakfast a run which will last at least 20 mins or more. if you can run 4 mornings a week this would be good. now as for being fit to fight this is a different matter, i would suggest you include interval type training, this basically means you go for short bursts then ease off then go again.... eg....

go to your nearsest track or football field...

4 laps to warm up... this is roughly 1 mile

then sprint the length of the track and jog or walk the width or corner do this for 4 laps or more.

4 more laps but this time run at a good pace and at each corner you either do squats, pushups, situps, then 4 laps to finish.

you will have done 3 miles and some good bodyweight excercises do this twice a week.

if you want to know more why not try out rossboxing.com the guys name is ross enamait and he is one of the smartest guys out there in terms of fighting fitness

    goodluck

  5. Stop eating... But seriously, eat 5 small meal a day. Try to eat fruits, vegetables, lean beef, chicken, and fish. Drink ONLY water.

  6. Jogging is a great way to burn fat. Any time you raise your heart rate your body burns fat. You need to do it atleast 20 minutes, raising your heart rate for a less amout of time is not good for your heart. Burning fat and eating less calories will help you loose weight before your tournament. You dont mention your height or weight but I would say that at 1900 calories a day you will loose your 20 lbs. watch eating at night especially sugars and high fat. I would try not to eat at all atleast 2 hours before you go to bed and eat as soon as possible when you wake up. Your metabolism goes to sleep when you do and doesnt wake up til you eat something. so BIG breakfast, nice lunch and LIGHT dinner and no snacks before bed. Have fun and learning something at 40 is a great idea for your mind and body :) congratulations and good luck on tournament!

I totally agree with drinking only water and LOTS of it. but the sweat suit thing...bad idea you only loose water weight that is re-gained when you drink a glass of water. dehydration is a terrible thing.
