Whats the best way to mantain a hair color?

Well my natural hair is a very very light brown, almost dirty blonde. My eyebrows are so light you can hardly see them. I keep both my hair and eyebrows a sort of ashy chocolate brown.

I usually go to the salon when it starts to get light. But Im tired of just re-dying it when it fades. And in-shower color treatments usually add red. So, how do you mantain your hair color? With root touch ups, shampoos, in shower treatments, box dyes, how often you go to the salon, anything. Just help me out! Thanks!

  1. with all of the above, for your daily shampoo and conditioner use a color revival bottle. What this does is specifically treat color treated hair. you can find it in any brand and at any store. just read the bottle. Box dyes have the conditioner that works so great and smells so good. well nice and easy carries just the conditioner and in a bigger bottle for sale. It comes in a blue tube, it's called Color Seal. That will also work but dont use it daily maybe just once a week.

    OR...

just dye your hair a color that looks like your natural hair. When your hair grows it doesn't look all two toned. it'll actually blend in with your natural roots, eyebrows, eyelashes, etc. besides natural is always more beautiful.

  2. Use a color protecting line of hair products. I find that Redken works amazingly, and you can purchase it at Shoppers Drug Mart, or most other drugstores.

  3. here are some wonderful tips

    #  Apply a deep conditioning treatment to your hair a few days before coloring to help moisturize your locks. The better condition that your hair is in the better the color will take to your hair.

    # Do not apply color to freshly shampooed hair. You want to have your hair unshampooed for at least 24 hours before applying the color. Your natural oils will help to make the color application more successful.

    # Use a color enhancing shampoo to help keep the color alive longer. These special shampoos for dyed hair help to keep your color looking great until the next time that you dye it.

    #  Try to avoid swimming in chlorine pools and long exposure to the sun. The sun can fade your hair as well as the chlorine.

    # Keep your hair well conditioned to help the hair stay soft since dyeing it can dry it out. Conditioned hair holds color better than dry hair so make sure to condition regularly.

    # Try washing your hair only every other day instead of every day. Washing your hair to much strips the natural oils that your hair produces and takes shine away as well as fades the color. If you have oily hair then try using baby powder to soak up the oils on the days you don't shampoo your hair.

    #  After you wash your hair try to rinse it with the coolest water you can take. Cold water helps close the cuticles and keep your color in so it last longer and will be shiner as well.

    #  Of course make sure that you choose the right kind of hair coloring product that you want. There are semi-permanent, demi-permanent or permanent, so check the box before you buy it to make sure its the one that you want.

  4. 1st sun, washing, swimming, and perming all lighten your hair. Before swimming you should saturate your hair with water so it slows down the process. Using color treated products to shampoo & condition to again slow down what fading takes place. Perm before you color, there is lightening agents in all perms/straighteners. The best way to color is to pick your shade you like, these are labled as neutrals if you choose ones that have other words like beige, violet, ash, orange, or blue as well as warm and cool, you then go to a whole new realm of coloring that should be left to professionals. This is usually where people mess things up. If you want to correct colors always look at the base color of what the product is. Again this should be done by professionals they know (or should) what will best suit you. Hair has up to 10 levels 1 being the darkest 10 being the lightest. If you have dark hair then you must lighten through all the stages (multiple and very time consuming not to mention tough on the hair/scalp) and to darken you must remember to put in the pigments that are not already there (these include yellow, violet, green. blue, and orange) what you are specifically missing should be determined by a pro. So with out them your darkened hair will just wash away instead of growing out and that is just money down the drain. So when you look to finding the best for the money just use a pro. but remember to stick it out with the one you choose everyone (as is each brand: matrix, redkin, etc.) is different and you may try a few products out before you find the one you like. So hang in there and don't forget to say what you want clearly.
