  1. Register on as many reunion registries you can find and also find a search angel who  knows the ropes

You need to post a little more info so someone might point you in the right direction

  2. Get the Book Birthright: A guide to Search and Reunion by Jean A.S. Strauss.  It is an excellent resource for anyone beginning a search.

I believe that you need to start with the state in which you were adopted.  You can apply for non identifying information and medical information through the state of Indiana.  There are forms you will need to fill out to do so.

Indiana also has a registry.  If you and your firstmom fill out the necessary forms, you will be given each other's info.  Please know that many do not know of this registry.  My firstmom did know until last fall when her son learned about it while helping her do research.  Your firstmom may not be aware that you were adopted in Indiana so that could be a problem.

Don't get discouraged if you hit a dead end there.

Here is the info for the registry people:

    ndiana Adoption History Registry

    Attn: Registrar, Vital Records Division

    Section B-4

    2 N. Meridian Street

    Indianapolis, IN 46204

    (317) 233-7253 Mary Hind

    (317) 233-7279 Theresa

    (317) 233-7280

They are pretty rude to adoptees there so expect to be treated not so nicely when you call.  Mary Hind is bad and her lackey Theresa is worse.  They actually seemed angry that my firstmom and I made a match.  No kidding. Don't let it get you down though.

Contact the agency or lawyers who handled your adoption, they may be willing to give you more non identifying info.

Indiana is a tough nut to crack.  Adoption laws are pretty strict.

I found my firstmom on the adoption.com registry (look at both states).  Also look at the entire month of your birth instead of just the actual day.  My firstmom posted on adoption.com's registry 5 years ago but I never found her until last year because she was off on my birthday by one day. I finally looked at the entire month and year of my birth and there she was.

    Good luck in your search.
