  1. This is what I do:

Gun goes off, I sprint for 7 seconds and then get into my pace. Keep my eye on the goal throughout the first miles. After this, I start acceleration. Keep getting faster and faster and faster during the last half of a mile. By the time I am at the 400 meter mark - SPRINT my hardest!

A rule of thumb is to never quit or give up. When you start to doubt yourself remember that pain is only temporary.

Best of luck on your race, I have one tomorrow also! : )

  2. it depends on what type of runner you are.

for me, i can't go fast end the end (unless its the last 800m), so i normally take off in a sprint in the beginning.

i also sprint in the start because im not good at running between people, so when you sprint and get out of the pack, it's better off for you becaseu you won't be stuck in the middle of a huge pack, whether you want to run faster or not. oh, and then after just the first 200m - 400m, i steady myself at race pace

however, my other team mate is a person who starts out regularly, and goes faster and faster and faster. she's like a snake, she can squeeze out of that huge pack in the beginning

  3. You want to start out at a faster speed than you would through the rest of the race, but not a full on sprint. Because of your nerves and adrenaline, you will exert a lot of energy, whether you go fast or slow, so use it to your advantage and go fast.

  4. You should sprint the first 20 or so yards then settle into your race pace...don't push it too long or you'll die out.

  5. Do NOT sprint yourself out. All of your energy will BURN and it will be difficult to the EXTREME to finish the race.

What you need to do is when the gun goes off take off in a steady sprint and find your place somewhere out of the pack in front somewhere, and then quickly fall in your steady pace throughout the race, and sprint for your life around the last 80-100 yards.

  6. When I do long distance running, I usually go faster than normal for the first quarter, go normal paced for the middle two, and then speed up again for the last quarter. I agree with another answerer -- always realize that pain is only temporary, but pride is forever. :D At the end, just sprint, full out. The end is what decides it -- if you can pass everyone at the end, you own.

    Best of luck!

  7. You should not sprint, hold a steady pace, but swifter than you would run the rest of the race. If you sprint you will ire yourself out.

  8. its all to do with energy systems!  The best thing to do would be to start out with a sprint, for long as you could. then when ur tired kick into your racing pace.  Your body has a energy system called the A-lactic system, it lasts for about 20 seconds and then needs time to recover.  Its wat sprinters use, its the fastest you can perform at!  (as your running the whole time u dont reli recover it well, it will a little bit but not to its full original state.)  So basically if u dont use it at the start of the race it gets dwindled away during the race and is wasted.  If u use it at the start then at least u get the use out of it!
