I'm well on my way to being asst general manager where I work as said to me by the gm and some others. Now I'm afraid that when I tell them Im pregnent that he may pass me up for the promotion.

But either way it goes I'm going to have to tell them but how can I tell them without the fear of not getting the promotion???

  1. I faced the same problem. There's no sure-fire way to make sure they don't pass you up for this promotion..however, your baby is important. More important than a promotion. So just be honest and hope for the best.

  2. good question. hopefully they will be understanding and you will still be considered for that promotion. i would wait til you are at least 3 mos to tell them. has anyone else there recently had a baby? that might give you some clues as to what might be a good way of going about it. just be honest. and let them know that you are still interested in the promotion, if you are. you never know tho, your priorities might change. if the reason you are being considered for the promotion are because you are available for a lot of overtiime, and you dont mind dropping everything to come in, you might want to think about if you still will be doing those things after you have the baby.

congrats on your pregnancy tho!! and good luck w/ the whole thing! =)

  3. Right after you've done something great like scoring a new account or solving a big problem, you make your announcement. This helps show pregnancy isn't affecting your performance.

When you call the meeting to tell your boss, you should already have formulated a game plan for how you'll make sure your work is handled, how long you plan to be off, etc. Of course circumstances can change, but it's important to show that you're prepared to ensure your workload is covered.

If you want more tips, Google. There are tons of articles out on the web.

  4. Your baby is more important than your job. It is possible that you may not get the promotion, as you will need time off once the baby is born. Just take your manager aside and discuss your options. They will understand. Andddd if you're a good employee (as you say you are) then another promotion will come along someday. Don't stress!
