Whats the best way to transfer money from the US to the UK?

I need to pay approximately $1000 every 2 months for a university course. I have a bank account over their (UK - which is empty). Bank account over here, US credit cards, PayPal, Checking account etc etc.

I just need to find the cheapest way of doing it.

what checking account do you have? there are bank accounts that offer waivers for outgoing international or domestic wire transfer . you might want to check that information with your bank if that service is available coz the most convenient way to do it is through wire transfer which is initiated through your bank.

Transferring money is not cheap.  A bank will wire transfer it for you into an existing account there for a fee, of course.  Western Union will do it also but a fee is attached.  Also consider that money may be "lost" due to conversion from the dollar to the pound.
