  1. Have the right size box or carrier or a cage for this bird.If the bird is not to big or the cage you can leave in the cage and either place on floor in front or back if cage is small enough you can sit on seat and seat belt the cage so doesn't move or fall over.Place a sheet over cage so bird wont see movements and get totally stressedWhen I had mine I placed in a smaller cage and he (COE) rode on the seat with me and I did this for 5 years as we traveled alot threw the US.

  2. Depending on the size of the bird, a pet carrier is best. For large birds a medium sized dog crate will work find, but for smaller birds a nice closed in cage type carrier would be good. If you must use a box make sure it has small breather holes and make sure it is not put in the box for the ride home in the heat of the day.

  3. I get rare cockatiels from breeders within Ontario, Canada. I live in Toronto, Ontario and had a cockatiel shipped from Surrey, BC. The breeder made a homemade wooden crate  with a wired mesh in the front. At the top of the crate, a cloth was taped down so it can hang down and cover the front. This will allow the bird to easily breathe, and will be dark inside the crate so the bird won't be stressed/bothered from any outside movement which can frighten the bird. A perch was cut and glued in the crate along with shavings at the bottom. There was two yogurt cups that have been glued down to the crate. One cup had seeds and the other had fresh seed sprouts and veggies. Also, a spray millet was strapped to the side of the crate next to the perch.

I like to transport my birds in a cardboard box with 2-3 inches of shaving at the bottom and 1-2 spray millet. Keep it dark inside so the bird does not thrash around and hurt him/herself. Darkness will also reduce stress from transport.

  4. I think the best thing might to call the local Petsmart/Petco and ask what they use...maybe they have something you can have especially if it's made out of cardboard, which I suspect it is. Should be fine for a short term trip...for longer than a few hours, I'm not sure tho.

  5. I just took my Mr Lemonlime on vacation. i kept him in his regular cage buckled in. For short trips, I have a small carrier I bought at petco. I think he feels better being able to see.

  6. Get a small travel cage for him.  You'll be surprised at how much you'll use it.

  9. You can pick up a bird carrier at most of the larger pet stores.  They make carriers appropriately sized for just about any bird - from budgies and parrotlets to macaws and cockatoos.

Secure the carrier in the back seat of your car with a seatbelt.  That will keep the carrier from being knocked around in the case of an accident (or even slamming on the brakes) and from being flattened by the front seat air bags.

You'll be surprised how handy the carriers are.  You'll use them for transporting your bird, for taking him out in the yard for a little fresh air and for holding your bird while you scrub and rearrange the cage.

  10. birdcage? make sure your container is sturdy but doesn't trap your bird in with no air and stuff

  11. i transport mine frozen in a styrofoam chest. i prefer chicken without antibiotics or hormones. small chickens.

  12. I have a cockatiel that doesn't like to stay home, so I know the feeling.

Just put it's cage either on the passenger seat of your car or in the backseat, strapped it. It won't be harmed, that way, no matter the size of the cage it's being kept in.

  13. box...with air holes
