  1. A PowerPoint

  2. I use music and video (DVD) when it follows a theme. With ESL, these might be helpful mediums for comprehension.

  3. imbed the powerpoint with questions that the students either have before han d so that there is purpose to everything

discoveychannel has a great source or clips of different length-s i would say have the clip / segment no longer than 3 min at a time

i use a clickers system so that students can give me feedback to whether thy understand  a question between a clip.

at  the end of last year i got students to record their own math questions and answers i plan to plan them as my antisets this year- kids love seeing other kids that they know- they have more buy in the research says.

  4. have them listen to a song, rap, hip hop, and let themcreate their own song lyrics, then have them translate them into the second language and have them sing it or explain it. You have fun, educational, and reaching a somewhat personal note!

  5. By "esol", do you mean "ESL", or English as a Second Language?  Regardless of what it means, I think that ideally you should stop the film at intervals and discuss what has transpired in the movie up to that point.  You should also ask comprehensive questions about the content of the film..

As for the music, you could discuss the artist or composer of the piece, or else write the lyrics to some of the songs on the board in English.  You could get the students to sing along to the music if they appear to be inclined to get into the music.

As well, you could play some of the music when the class starts to look bored or the work appears to loose momentum.
