I want to make it so i can basically watch and listen to whats displayed on my Mac wirelessly. Im not interested in products like AppleTV because, as far as i know, it only allows you to stream iTunes content.

I know i might be a little confusing but im hoping you understand. Ask for more detail if you need it, THANK YOU!

  1. Until very recently, it wasn't possible to stream HD content wirelessly. The necessary bandwidth just wasn't available. That is the reason AppleTV only works with iTunes content. AppleTV is an external hard drive storing your iTunes stuff before passing it to the television. Nothing is done in precisely real time even when you are "streaming."

Of those pieces of equipment that do allow you to use a television as, essentially, a second monitor there are quite a few. Some are video only, some are audio and video. The one I typically use is the Infocus Liteshow 2. The software utilizes your wireless network card to pass both audio and video to a receiver by the television that connects via VGA. The bandwidth limitations still exist, though, so everything is standard def only and fairly mediocre. This is true of every reasonably priced ($200-$500) unit of this type I have tried.

More expensive versions do exist (usually $3000 - $5000) that take advantage of the UWB to stream true HD signals. These are typically intended for commercial use.
