Whats the best wood for making surfboards?

Well I want to make a longboard. So I'm looking for wood to make it with.

Most boards have a fiberglass core.  If you feel the need to do wood, teak is your best bet, but it's going to be expensive

Wood? Try Balsa. Basswood is another possibility. Visit a lumberyard and talk with an expert. Tell them you want a light weight wood with good strength, preferably a hardwood. It is possible to make a hollowcore board using thin sheets of wood. Boards today are made of a core of expanded/foam  plastic and covered with fiberglass/resin.
