Whats the big deal with tupac?

So, i'm just wondering...what's the big deal with tupac? I remember when he died and how after that it's like he was the new messiah to black people, but i never listened to his music so i never understood it. Can someone please explain why people were/are so obsessed with him?

The "ghetto" is hard as h**l. People dying all the time, drugs, poor education, stuck in a cycle of poverty. Tupac basically made it from rags to riches, his music was more of poetry than rap. He was the realest and best rapper ever. He inspired millions and made a lot of blacks proud to be who they are. But anyone can relate to his music and be inspired by it.

Well I think calling him a "new messiah to black people" is a bit of a stretch.  To explain the existence of the "Mega Fan" is like asking why every other question on Yahoo Answers is asking who is the cutest Jonas Brother?  There is no explaining why some people have such a profound effect on so many.

As for all the hype/drama regarding Tupac, I think it has a lot to do with how he died and "mystery" (basically a bunch of conspiracy theories) that surrounded the incident.  Also he died so young that it is thought that he had yet reached his full potential as an artist.  Aside from being a gifted musical performer, he appeared to be a talented writer and actor.

However, to put it in some perspective.  Tupac is to Rap/Hip-hop what Selena is to Tejano music or John Lennon is to Rock.  Just another gifted person who died too soon.

The best answer I can give you would be to watch a movie called "Tupac: Resurrection", it explains his whole life from his birth to his death in 1996, and everything he did

His music had powerful meaningful words unlike present day rap. He also inspired many black folks, and he had a tough life as a child.
