For Americans, its the Masters, some might say the U.S. Open.  For every other golfer in the world, its the Open Championship (British Open.)

The Masters is one of the smallest, with only 94 in the field this year.

The Joburg Open in South Africa is the biggest one so far this season (between the US and European tours) with 204 golfers teeing off.

The Masters has an advantage as it's location never changes. It is at an exclusive club (Augusta National) and features the top players every year. It's green jacket is also a very recognizable symbol of greatness.

The US Open and British Open are probably the next biggest tournaments but can be bigger then the Masters if played at the right course like Pebble Beach or Royal St. Andrews. These courses have amazing history and when combined with one of the "Major" tournaments can bring together a once in a while perfect storm that is bigger then the Masters in that year.

The PGA Championship is also a big event but probably a slight bit behind the other 3 like how the Belmont Stakes is not as cool as The Kentucky Derby. It's part of the 4 majors but because it's the last one it gets to play second fiddle to the others.
