Whats the cheapest way to catch my favorite NFL Team? I'm not in their home market!?

All I do is watch Football and the channels I get for free, so I don't really want to pay for Direct TV for 18 months, since they make you sign a contract and I'm not going to watch it...

I tried to buy one of those boxes that feeds cable through the internet from my parents house. It works great if your several miles away, but 1/2 way accross the country it was so choppy and the audio was so far off, you could barely make out what was happening.

Last year I went to a sports bar every game, but 17+ games at about $30 a game (my wife and I- I feel obliged to spend a few bucks since we're there 4 hours) is over $500.

Are there any other good ideas at how to catch The one thing I pretty much live for in life without completly breaking the bank?

Thanks!

  1. You have the same problem we do. Not interested in spending $$ on Direct since we have dish & love it, but going to the bar every day gets expensive. We decided to compare costs though, and in the end Direct wins out.

I am sure gonna miss the bar though.

  2. justin.tv

    go to sports section.

    100% free - every game

  3. I completely understand your situation being from WI and having been in the military as well as spending a lot of time in GA and NC for other seasons.  For me, the ultimate cheapo way is to get online, go to either the team page or NFL page and just keep refreshing the game page.  Thats really boring but works good enough if you're really desperate.  I also go to for example Hooters but like you said, I feel obligated to buy a drink or two.  Also a good idea would be to see who else is a "team x" fan and ask how they watch the game.  Maybe they'll even invite you over to watch and you can bring some food or drink along.  Also I think there's a way you can watch some/all the NFL games streaming live on the net but I know there's a fee to join this.  Might be cheaper than Direct TV but I don't know the details.  You can try to look it up and if it's for you, they all the better.  Good luck.

  4. meet other football fans through craigslist.com or another website maybe of your fav team, or a blog so you can meet other fans who watch it at their house or somewhere else without having to pay.  Maybe one of your neighbors is a huge fan who pays for the direct tv and is willing to have you over if you bring some brews or food.
