Whats the cheapest way to travel from Dublin to Northern Ireland?

Im flying into Dublin International and need to get to Portstewert......i need to get there the cheapest....besides hitchhiking

but is hitchhiking safe in ireland?

I think the train is your best bet, hitchhiking is not very safe in Ireland anymore. You can get the bus to Connolly Station, that's where the trains to Northern Ireland depart from.

Train from Dublin to Belfast. Change in Belfast for Coleraine - BUT buy a through ticket cos it's cheaper - i.e Dublin to Coleraine.

Then bus to Portstewart.

And hitching is Ireland is still safe.

Rent a car

Get a train from Dublin to Belfast and Belfast to Coleraine (4 miles from Portstewart and then a bus from Coleraine to Portstewart, the bus and train stations are beside each other!!)

If you are a tourist I suggest the following things while in Portstewart;

The Cliff Walk

The Strand Walk (along the beach)

Crab Fishing

The Giants Causeway

Eating at Shenanigans (sp?!)

Drinking at the Anchor!

If you have kids;

Flowerfield playground is great fun!

Cheapest way will be by bus. Trains in Ireland are quite expensive compared to the buses.

I wouldn't recommend hitch-hiking.
