  1. The reaction is

    Na2CO3 + KI = NaI + K2CO3

    To balance, you must have the same number of elements on each side.

    So, at the moment there are 2 potassiums on the right, but only 1 on the left. So we put a 2 in front of the KI.

    This gives us

    Na2CO3 + 2KI = NaI + K2CO3

    Now there are 2 I's on the left, but only one on the right. So we put a 2 in front of NaI.

    Na2CO3 + 2KI = 2NaI + K2CO3

    There are 2 Na's on the left, and now 2 on the right because of the 2 in front of NaI. There are 2 potassiums on each side, two iodines and 1 CO3.

    It is balanced.
