i've heard that there's a Chinese saying/proverb that goes as you can read a book a thousand/millions of times, but you have to be there to experience it. for example, a travel guide will show you only the good aspects about a country. you have to travel there, and BE there to know the country, its good and bad sides and get the bigger picture.

whats the exact saying or proverb? :s does anyone know???
