Not only is there no skiing anywhere in WA, you'd be going in the wrong direction. There is good advice above.

Ski New Zealand (South Island) the prices and the snow are far better.

In Australia, the closest major ski resorts to Townsville as the crow flies are the NSW resorts - Perisher & Thredbo.  However as you are probably flying, the closest major Australian resort to an airport is Mt Buller, in Victoria which is close to Melbourne, or Perisher & Thredbo which are about 2.5 hours from Canberra.  Albury is even closer to Falls Creek and Mt Hotham.

In terms of time and cheapness it is probably worth investigating New Zealand.  If there are direct flights from Townsville, or even Cairns, that may work out faster and cheaper.

Perth is so far away that driving would be madness.  Apart from the New Zealand theory the same considerations apply for flying.  Or wait 6 months and ski Japan, which will have better snow and may be cheaper.
