  1. Peso convertibles (CUC or tourist dollars).

You can take euros or Canadian dollars to Cuba. Credit cards issued by Canadian and European banks ARE accepted (except AMEX). Credit cards issued by US banks are NOT accepted.

If your ticket does not include the departure tax, it's 25 CUC.

  2. Cubans use Peso Cubano.

Tourists use CUC (Unidad Convertible Cubana).

Tourists can use credit cards and also take money from the ATM machines.  (Not United States cards).

    Best to you.

  3. As Richard K and Del said, CUC (Cuban Convertible Pesos) is what YOU will use as a tourist. CUP is what the locals will use.

Travellers' cheques are also accepted (as long as not US based as well), along with non-US based credit cards.

Check the links below for more information.

But just remember though, if using your credit card, charges made will be first done in US.

  4. Tourist use Peso Convertible , Cubans use Peso Nacional

  5. Tourists use the CUC Convertible Peso .  Keep in mind  CUCs have no value outside Cuba and  you can only buy them  in Cuba.   You can buy them at the airport upon arrival or at your resort. Be sure to use them up before you leave or hang onto some for your next visit and chances are you go once, you will be back.  Cuba is mostly a cash society although you can pay for souvenirs, tours  and most everything else at your resort with credit cards as long as they are not issued by an American bank.  Be sure to hang onto 25 CUC per person to pay your departure tax at the airport when you are leaving.  The link below will give you the approximate rate.
