8 is a very lucky number in the Chinese culture, hence why the Olympics were opened on 8/8/08. It is similar to the idea of many countries had their fling with the 7/7/07 last year. If you watched the Opening Ceremony of the Olympics, they explained it in detail towards the end of the broadcast (or at least it did on the channel we were watching).

O hey December 12th this year twilight the movie comes out in theaters, haha just had to point out what i noticed.

Well now understand this you can make it something special for yourself and then it will mean something to you, but otherwise it just a day of coincidence or hey maybe even a day of pattern. That will repeat 100 years from now. So please don't listen to those that call you stupid there is no point for them to say that. The Chinese picked this date because it is supposed to be a very lucky day!  Apparently numbers are really important to them, and so this date is something special.  I heard during the broadcast that Bob Costas noted that for the Chinese people 8/8/8 means prosperity!  So hopefully the Americans can win some of the medals the Chinese are planning to win.
