  1. October 15th,  2008 to qualify for the stimulus.

  2. If you filed an extension form, then you have until October 15th.

The date used to be August 15th with a second extension to October 15th, then the IRS just made it October and skipped the August due date.

An extension does not give you an extension of time to pay any balance due - it just eliminates the late filing penalty if there is money due.  If you have a balance due, then you will still have a non-payment penalty and interest penalty.

The situation changes if you have a refund coming.  There are no penalties so you could really procrastinate - but don't procrastinate too long - if you file your return more than three years late, you will lose your refund.

If your return was due 4/15/08, you have until 4/15/11 to file your return and still get a refund.  However, if you wait until 4/16/11 to file your return you will be penalized the amount of your refund.

  3. Hi Steve,

August the 15th and it has to be post marked before 12:00am. Sorry to file later you will have to get some kind of form to give you more time. Get ahold of the IRS to see what form you need and then get their site from them and print out a copy of the form.

  4. Only if you applied for extension before April 15, 2008, then the due date is Oct 15, 2008.

However, you will still pay interest on any tax due.
