  1. Jonathan J Pretty much said it. Just to clarify, Someone from England is English and also British. I am from Scotland so am Scottish but also British. I have a British passport. So they are not all the same that's why there are 3 names....

  2. Because that is the way to go.

  3. People Adam J is a troll - He has just been flaming in the Ireland section, don't waste your time explaining.

  4. The UK is made up of four countries- England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Each place is its own unique country- so England does not equate UK

Britain is the main land- ie England, Scotland and Wales.

They are not the same thing in any shape or form. Britain and UK (Britain plus RI) might be used synonymously, but they are not the same thing as the individual countries.

The UK is a political term, not a term of countries. I am English, but also, by proxy British.

  5. Simple answer is - we dont!

  6. Great Britain is the main island, which is split into three countries - England, Scotland, and Wales.

England occupies the Southern 2/3rd of the main island, where London, Bristol, etc are located.

UK is the United Kingdom - a union of four constituent countries: England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales

  7. Britain = an island made up of 3 different countries

British/Britishness = an imaginary idea, roughly meaning 'places occupied by England'.  There really is no such thing as 'British'.

England =  A country on the island of Britain which will soon only rule itself, better for England and all concerned.

UK = An un-democratically created political entity which is falling apart.

Different terms and configurations are used during different sporting events (Olympics, World Cup etc.) to maximise Englands percieved glory...... as if the rest of us are 'buying' it.
