  1. The problem is that you have to get it from water,it does not exist in a natural state. When everybody will start using hydrogen (if this will happen) it will start to raise the price.

  2. Currently, Hydrogen IS a more expensive Power Source. But as the " $$$'s" for Gas go UP, more & MORE- Alternative Fuels- become Economically viable... So give it TIME... Should the price of Gas continue to Rise as fast as it HAS been lately, even the old "Horse & Buggy"- is gonna start looking like a pretty "Cheap" way to get around!  :0

  3. It will never be cheaper than oil. Oil is just found in the environment. Hydrogen must be made from other materials found in the environment, and that takes energy and costs money.

  4. The good news is that hydrogen will be cheaper than oil.  The bad news is that gas will have to be $10 or $12 per gallon for it to be cheaper.

  5. Most hydrogen comes from reforming methane (CH4) or from superheated water (easier to split off the Oxygen molecule then for some reason).    Hydrogen can be burnt in a regular internal combustion engine (with a few modifications), but then its no better than just using the methane in the engine.   Run it through a fuel cell though  and the efficiency is 2-4 times that of the internal combustion engine, thus a cheaper mpg cost.   Stationary power plants have the space and repair contracts available to make fuel cells and hydrogen power worth while, especially when they can reform the methane (or heavy fuel oil in some applications) on site.   Making a small passenger vehicle that can combine all the necessary parts into the small engine compartment and be reliable as most engines are today has so far escaped the inventors.

  6. Hydrogen can be used as a fuel in a few different ways.  The way proposed for some cars is the fuel cell.  At present the technology and the fuel is more expensive than oil.  Eventually the oil is going to run out.  We're at the point where the end is in sight, so oil and products made from it are getting more expensive.  You can't really compare MPG with gas to MPG with hydrogen; that's an apples-to-oranges comparison, the technologies are different.  The other difficulty with switching to a hydrogen-based fuel is that the infrastructure is not set up for it.  You could get a car using hydrogen as its fuel, but where would you refuel it.

  7. I am 77 and have heard this all my life.

  8. Hydrogen powered vehicles are a LONG way off! and introduce problems which I don't think the "green" folks would like------- like depleting the Ozone layer !! I sure wish people would do a little reading before they run off and promote a BAD idea --
