Whats the deal with..?

They call pop a soft drink. So would you call beer a hard drink? Or would that be a medium drink and liquor would be the hard drink? And what would be a wine cooler or mikes hard lemonade? A mild drink?

  2. I think the ATF has specific requirements for what's "hard" liquor; and the licensing is different for hard liquor and wine & beer.  I'm sure there's a % of alcohol which is the deciding factor on exactly what's hard liquor .....

  3. Beer is beer. Interestingly enough when comparing standard serving sizes it has the exact same amount of actual ethanol alcohol in it as wine and liquor...

    12oz of 5% beer = 0.6oz ethanol

    1.5oz of 40% liquor = 0.6oz ethanol

    5oz of 12% wine = 0.6oz ethanol

    Liquor is called hard liquor because it is more concentraited.

    Wine coolers are just that... wine coolers and drinks like Mike's are Malt Beverages, Malternatives or Alcopops. THEY ARE NOT BEER! Though they do generally contain 5% just like your average beer.
