Whats the deal with sinks with two faucets? ?

I've recently seen two movies where they show a sink with two faucets. One on each end of the basin. I'd never seen such a thing. Is one hot and one cold or what? Isn't that a little inconvenient if you want warm?

  1. Yes, one is hot and one is cold.  These were popular in the 30's, 40's, and even the 50's.  It allowed sink manufacturers to only have one style of faucet.  It was cheaper.  The single handle faucet you have now was not around at that time, so to get a mix you needed a hot valve, a cold valve, more plumbing, and a faucet.

    CHEAPER is the answer.

  2. yeah in the older days they used to have a pipe that went to each tap and one was cold and one was hot but i do agree with you if they wanted warm water it would be weird if it was like it now so we are pretty lucky because we have the one tap so we can make warm water easy and it looks better with only one tap!

  3. They are as you say one for hot & one for cold, for warm you have to mix in the bowl. By the way in the UK we call them taps

  4. that was before they made hot and cold come out of the same faucet.
