  1. Broadband refers to any Internet connection that has a higher speed than basic dial-up; which means DSL, cable modems, T1 lines, etc.

  2. broadband in much more faster then dial up. dial up we normally call it now the narrowband. usng the broadband, u can get a more stable connection, and you wont get disconnected when a phone call comes in, unlike dial up. using dial up, u have to choose whether to use phone or internet at 1 time but with broadband u can use both. broadband use the phone line to connect to internet and depends on the quality of ur phone line.

broadband has 2 types (at  least in my country), which is ppoe and ppoa. with ppoe, you will get a dynamic ip, means ur ip address changes whenever u connect and disconnect. also your download and upload speed wont be the same , eg download 1mb upload 384kbps. this is called ADSL (asymeritical DSL). with ppoa you will get a fixed ip address, but you can choose ADSL or SDSL. SDSL is when ur download and upload speed is the same.

you can try to check slowstreamyx.com , but this is mainly for malaysian broadband ISP. but the trouble shooting guide should be helpful if you are applying for customer support job.
