  1. Technically, a hurricane is a particular type of cyclone.  In the world of meteorology, a cyclone is ANY rotating low pressure system, be it a hurricane, tornado, mid-latitude low pressure center, thermal low, etc.

    Now a hurricane that is located over the Indian Ocean is termed a Cyclone in that area.  There is no difference in the type of storm, just that they are named differently in different parts of the world (Hurricanes, Typhoons, Cyclones are all the same type of tropical storm system)


  2. cyclones are only wind, and can't survive lonng on land, hurricanes are basically big storms.
