  1. Ummmm!

    Their club songs?

    Their Guernseys?

  2. The difference is the players and coaching staff. They are not all out of the same mould, and this is the reason that it's called a competition.

If there were no difference, all the teams would win on Grand Final Day.

  3. It's the question that makes millions of dollars for coaches and gets them sacked just as quickly as they're hired!

Essentially teams need talent, skills, fitness, strategy and cohesion.

Talent you CAN buy, that's what the draft is about.  But you need a blend of talents.  It wouldn't be good to have a team of guys who can kick 90 metres but can't mark the ball for nuts.  So (in simplistic terms) the guy who can't mark so well but can kick needs someone to get the ball to him etc etc.

Skills - well no matter how talented a player is or isn't they need to build skills.  Marking, scrounging, pack work, handpassing, kicking, positioning, elusion ... I did a list of 40 skills for my junior team to work on.

Fitness, if you want talented, skilled dead beats ... go to ... no I won't start that.  But these guys run up to 20 kilometres a game, often at a sprint.  Strength to tackle, dive, get up and get the ball ... etc

Strategy ... while some teams in junior comps work on the theory 'kick it to the big guy'.  These teams usually have an over-arching strategy and 20 or thirty main game plays for different situations.  They practice these and review their effectiveness on video every night.  They have full-time guys doing this.

Cohesion.  An otherwise average team can excel if the players can always 'second-guess' what the other players on their team are doing.  A lot of this is from practice and just hanging around together.

When you have all of these things, you call your team the Geelong Cats.  You'll attract the most intelligent and good looking supporters that way :-)

  4. no can put a real answer to this question, some just have better skilled players, thats it, better coaching staff then others, beter medical staff, that is very important.

  5. cos they have different players

none of the players play for more than one team

also, they are from different places and have different home grounds

  6. different states/places

    different colours

    different playing style

    different coaches

    different players

    different ages

    different fans

    shall I continue...??

some teams are better cos they have found a playing style that suits their players well and they have perfected it and work together to  make it work.  but iuno
