Ok, I have been fumbeling over this question in my head for a long time, and have installed about 6 different systems in all of my various vehicles. But I can never seem to remember the difference between 2 Ohm stereo and 2 Ohm mono. Is it just a simple case of bridging a 2 chan. amp and running the coils to their respective places? And what if I have a mono block amp capable of a 2 Ohm load? Will it run in stereo or mono. Plus as an added bonus I am going shopping for a set of subs and a new amp, If you can tell me your thoughts on the Boston Acoustics GT-22, and a pair of new JL Audio 12w3v3's. This to me looks good, but I wanted an outside oppinion on things, I want SQ and SPL at the same time so a happy medium. All advice will help and thanks again!

  1. Stereo means at minimum, two speakers. Mono means one. 2 ohm stereo might mean that you have a two channel amp, and wiring each channel into 2ohm. 2ohm mono would mean one speaker wired at 2ohm load.

  2. mono is one channel.  Stereo is two channels.  Simple as that.  Once you go past two channels you're into surround sound territory unless you just have front and back speakers playing right and left.  Then it's still stereo.   You just have them separated to the front and back of your car.  But you still only have a left and right signal, which is still two ... so it's still stereo.

If you're looking for SQL, that shouldn't be too difficult.  Boston Acoustics and JL Audio both make good gear.  I'm sure you'll be fine.  Besides, SQ, SPL and especially SQL are very subjective terms.
