  1. It depends...Some countries have only

    a)President(US)

    b)some only Prime minister(UK)

    c) some both (France, Israel India tc)

A President is a head of the state , the first citizen and the head of the executive and the commander in chief of the armed forces. PM is the head of the govt. He isnt considered the first citizen. And he doesnt have a formal military title.

In case c) the powers of the executive may be divided or as in the case of Israel India, the President is a rubber stamp and a dummy(a ceremonial post)

One more difference is, the laws passed by the legislature in any country can become law only if the President signs it. (The PM doesnt have such powers)

Also Presidents in most countries have the power of pardoning or commuting the sentence anybody convicted of crime, and this decision of his cannot be questioned in any courts(All presidents have this power)PM's dont have such powers.....

  2. A President is the head of state of a republic. A prime minister is the head of government for a country with a monarchy.
