Question:

Whats the difference between 720p,1080i and 1080p in HDTV's?

I'm looking to get a new HDTV, but so many choices, and the main "Terminology" is 720p 1080i 1080p...It sure is confusing. Any help is greatly appreciated...Thanks !

  1. These options describe the resolution to your TV.  This is similar to how many pixels a camera has.  The higher the resolution, the better the picture.  Of the ones you asked about, 1080p is the best, then 720p, and last 1080i is the lowest.  The 'p' stands for progressive and has twice the resolution of one with 'i', which stands for interlace.

    My opinion is to go with 720p.  The only time you are going to get better resolution than 720p is when you are using a Blu-ray player and some video games.  All broadcasts are 720p or less from all the TV stations.  

    Another thing that may come up is the contrast ratio.  All new TVs have an amazing contrast ratio and you should not let it determine which TV you buy.
