  1. Australian football is very different to American football. It's played on an oval shaped field, which is roughly 170yards long and 140 yards wide, with 18 players on each team, and four posts at each end of the field.

The aim of the game is to kick the ball (shaped like an american football, but larger) through the posts at your attacking end of the field. This is the only way to score points. You are awarded 6 points if you kick the ball between the two posts in the middle, and 1 point if the ball goes between the other posts to the sides of the middle posts. Anyone can pass to anyone in Australian football, but you must either kick the ball like a punter does in American football, or handpass the ball to another player, by holding the ball in one hand, and hitting it with the other hand. Players do this by making a fist out of one hand, and punching the ball.

One similarity that I can think of, to American Football, is that it is a physical game there is a lot of tackling, although the player that is tackled must be in possession of the ball, and you must tackle above the knees and below the neck, as nobody wears any form of padding or protection. Another is that like American football, Australian football also draws huge audiences & support.

By all means, search for Australian football clips on youtube, and you can see the game in action (at least a little) & go to www.afl.com.au, like someone mentioned above. The professional league is called the Australian Football League.
