Whats the difference between Direct and indirect competitors?

Question

For a fitness center...lets say Fitness First. I assume a direct competitor would be another fitness center.

But what would be an indirect competitor for a fitness center be??

I guess any sports club like a Tennis Club, Boxing Club or a Rugby Club or something like that could be indirectly competing with a fitness club... ultimately people who are members of those clubs mightn't have the time, money or desire to join a fitness club!

Also shops selling home fitness equipment etc or online/TV workout programs could also be indirectly competing with fitness clubs.
