Whats the difference between Harvard and Chicago referencing?

Ive just googled how to do it but whats the difference i dont see much of difference.

Is there a particular reason why theres a preference for one over the other??

  1. the chicago method is also known as 'footnotes' where the name of the book, author, page number and year appear at the bottom of the page, whilst the quote or reference is cited in the text and there is a small number at the end of it. the number at the beginning denotes the order of the books, articles used.

    as for why certain students favour a particular style over another, it varies. some can get to grips with and familiarise themselves with it easily and stick with one method. personally i prefer the harvard method because it is much more simpler to use and as it is the conventional method of academic referencing that lecturers recommend that us students use .
