Whats the difference between Relief and elevation?

Or are they the same thing? I Dont understand what Relief means. Can someone explain it to me?

  1. Elevation is the vertical distance of a rise or fall in altitude.

    Relief is the graphic rendition of the overall changes in elevation.

    Think of a bell curve. The elevation at any given point is the vertical rise to the curve, but only at that particular point.

    The relief is the overall curve from start to end, and it includes all of the points of differing elevations.
