I don't see a difference. And if both were happening at the same time would there be so much damage that it would take like 5 years to rebuilt everything?

  1. A hurricane is a wind storm with thunder, lightening, rain, hail, and tornadoes.

A tsunami is a wall of water from the ocean caused by an earthquake.

How can you not see a difference in them?

They could happen together, although I haven't heard of any happening together.

    The damage would be catastrophic.

  2. A hurricane is a storm occurring in the atmosphere and affecting the ocean.  A tsunami is a tidal wave. This is a wave that is caused by geophysical actions not wind.  While both may create dangerous waves, Wind and rain are not associated with a tsunami.  The main difference is that unless you have an early warning system in place, a tsunami wave will appear seemingly out of nowhere.  A hurricane provides plenty of prior warning.

If both occurred at the same time the effects would be catastrophic.

  3. A hurricane is a large storm(typically waterborn), whereas a tsunami is a gigantic wave(thinque tidal wave). I've never heard of tsunamis happening @ the same time as a hurricane. They usually(always?) happen as a result of tectonic phenomena.

  4. A hurricane is a big storm of wind and rain.  A hurricane is formed from storms forming over warm water near the equator, and getting stronger as they move more or south.  Hurricanes are storms with clouds and lightning and thunder and rain -- lots of rain and verys triong winds.

A tsunami is a giant wave of water. It is usually caused by an undersea earthquake. a Tsunami could happen on a bright sunny calm day!

Hurricanes and tsunamis are not related.  They have completely different causes. [Hurricanes will cause "tidal surges" but that is NOT the same thing as a tsunami]

Because they have different causes, they COULD happen at the smae time.  But they usually don't.  there are lots of hurricanes every year. Tsunamis are very rare.

How much damage they do would depend on how powerful they are. Some hurricianae do very little damage.  Some tsunamais do very little damage.  Very big hurricanes and very big tsunamais are capable of killing thousands of people, flooding cities, and every wiping some cities complete off the face of the earth.

But very big hurricnae and very big tsunamis are very VERY rare.

  5. a Hurricane is a powerful wind & rain storm.  a Tsunami is an enormous wave, often caused by seismic activity in the ocean.

however, if you meant Typhoon vs. Hurricane, that has to do with where it is occurring.

Also, Hurricane Katrina happened alone and it has taken 3 years to rebuild only a fraction of the damage.   also, several years ago, a massive Tsunami destroyed 1/4 million people and countless homes, some of that will never be rebuilt.  so ya, both together would be insane.
