Whats the difference between a Mercator projection and a Robinson projection?

  1. Visually, the most obvious difference is that on the Mercator projection; the meridian lines are straight, while in the Robinson projection, only the central meridian is straight, the rest are curved.

    The other notorius difference is that on the Mercator projection there is a much bigger distortion in size, as you get away from the equator.

    The Robinson projection does not have such a big size distortion; but the shapes are more distorted as you go the corners of the map.
