I hear announcers all the time refer to sliders as either the backdoor or frontdoor variety. Does anybody know what in brett favre's name they might be talking about?

  1. A front door slider is a pitch that starts off outside, then at the last second, breaks towards the hitter and catches the outside edge of the plate.

A backdoor slider appears as if it is going to be inside.  At the last second it breaks away from the hitter catching the inside part of the plate.  That pitch sneaks over home plate through the back door.

  2. David E has it backwards. A backdoor comes from outside of the plate and breaks in catching the outer half of the strike zone. A frontdoor slider will start at the batter and break in catching the inner half of the zone.

Meaning a left handed pitcher can only throw a backdoor slider to a right handed batter. And vice-versa.

  3. Better yet ask Scooter's mammy! Guy only takes opinions that agrees with his then blocks you! I ought take a kyser blade to his hed!

  4. A back door slider is a pitch that starts out of the zone out side and breaks inside the plate. A front door is the opposite of that.
